Avis Carrington has one goal in mind: to enroll in Columbia University and earn a doctorate in medicine. The issue is, she"s been accepted into the University as Maxwell Sullivan, a man who does not exist. Unwilling to let this opportunity go to waste, Avis decides to run away to New York to begin her studies, and new life, as a man.
This plan of hers goes surprisingly well until she falls (literally) at the feet of Emry Duval, fourth child and only daughter of Leo Duval, one of New York"s greatest gangsters.
As the two get closer, Avis realizes she doesn"t need to be a man to succeed.
She also falls hopelessly in love.
